Our PVC Tile VS Epoxy Paint

Epoxy: Many customers think that Epoxy is an inexpensive easy way to protect concrete.  However, Epoxy proves to be much more expensive and ineffective for long term than our Flexi-Tile Interlocking Tiles.

Concrete is a very porous material made up of a mixture of cement, sand, aggregate, and water in specific proportions that hardens to a strong stony consistency.  Concrete breathes, it cracks and moisture can rise from the ground through the concrete to the surface.

Epoxy will generally last for about 6 months before issues start to arise.  When concrete cracks, or with moisture issues, the integrity of the paint is compromised and will begin to peel and detach.  Epoxy stains easily, you can't patch and repaint a stained area without ruining the integrity of the paint.  Traffic such as cars, forklifts or even foot traffic will ware the surface of the paint quickly.

Epoxy is applied best to newly poured concrete.  However, if concrete has any wear, oil stains, fuel spots, or other stains, then the concrete must first be cleaned up and prepared for paint.  Expert installers will be needed to prep concrete properly because there are harmful and dangerous chemicals needed to for this process.   In most applications the concrete must be acid washed, and/or sandblasted prior to epoxy installation.  Harmful vapors from most epoxy paints contains "volatile organic compounds" (VOC).  VOC are harmful due to their carbon compounds that vaporize into the air.  This can cause breathing problems, headaches, burning, watery eyes and nausea.  Working with Epoxy paint is not a good idea without the proper equipment, ventilation, and protective gear.

The real nightmare begins when the floor needs repainting, starting with high labor cost, hazmat issues to dispose of old paint, dangerous chemicals, and long downtime.  Expert installers are needed for removal of old paint and proper disposal of hazardous waste.

As part of the manufacturing operation the company uses a plastic extrusion process. It realized that the loss of virgin plastic from this process was incurring substantial costs. These costs were arising from the high levels of virgin material required for production and from the cost of disposing of the plastic waste. To address both these aspects it was decided to seek a method of recovering the waste plastic for recycling by injecting it back into the manufacturing process.
